When Talkies opened its single screen in March 1948, tickets were four annas and the balcony had hand-carved teak armrests. The projector was a carbon-arc Bauer, cycled to the hall on a tonga from Pune station.
We never closed. Not through the transistor years, not through VHS, not through the multiplex wave that swallowed every other single-screen in the peth. In 2019 we did the unthinkable politely — restored the façade, kept the brass, and folded four modern screens inside the old shell.
Curtains rise on a 900-seat single screen. First show: a black-and-white matinee, house full by noon.
The marquee gets its 312 tungsten bulbs — still hand-relamped every Diwali.
